Most of these false hadiths can easily be dismissed even by a modern arab speaking person. it seems to me that this entire thread misses the principles of sufism entirely. similar to tao... the sufism that can be explained is not sufism, as many who have studied the many aspects of sufism know... it is in the tasting, not in the describing. sufism is the sharia... but the sharia is not sufism, shamanism is sufism, but sufis is not shamanism. indeed... salaat is a moving meditation, with controlled breathing and focused thoughts while chanting payers... so is tai chi, if one does it correctly, so is the universal dance of peace and whirling. la ilaha illa allah... there is nothing to worship... there is only allah. why so much time debating mental artifacts and concepts that only exist in our minds, if we strip them of our "attachments" what remains... absolutely nothing. there is one universal truth/reality... it is beyond form, words, mental concepts, time, etc.... these things are all clues we reach towards in an attempt to experience the reality, past our limited concepts and being. suratul al'ikhlas says it most beautifully and simply, "say hu allah is one...hu begets not, nor is hu begotten". when we lose sight of the one message given to us by all of the prophets and rishis, then we lose sight of reality... the one absolute "being" is the only reality/truth... all of these labels and forms we hold onto are "willful" attempts at independent existence... all of them are illusions. this of course remains my opinion to all who have yet to taste! the essence of sufism. crush that grape! there's wine waiting to be tasted, ecstasy to be... experienced! when i stopped needing to define myself by concepts i noticed myself in everything. the qur'an doesn't say anything that the rg veda doesn't say... just a different time different language, different ways of expressing the same reality. the same holds true for all of the sacred scriptures. one reality is being explained, there are as many ways to explain it as there are created beings. have we ever let go of what we think being human is long enough so that a tree can show us the secret of breath and respiration, or the ocean show us the rythmn of our pulse... ever ate your food outside, mindfully and allowed the sun to show you how to mauntain digestive fire? muhammad was told to follow the religion of abraham, yet he is seemingly raised above all prophets [a practice the qur'an explicitly forbids]. why? becasue human beings have a tendency to accept what makes them feel good about the ideas they have attached to themselves to give definition to an illusion, they dismiss all ideas that do not reinforce their selfmade mythos. if we dismiss all of the religions and spiritual traditions does allah/absolute reality cease to exist. the light of truth and luv has shone through the windoes of our awareness... why are discussing the colors and reflective surfaces, when we could be sharing the experience of the... light, the... luv. what exists independent f this light and luv... why do we insist on creating false barriers in our perceptions? often it is the search... that becomes the barrier... the creator placed the answers witihn... why are we still looking in the wrong directions?

He feels the mere act of visiting a mausoleum and venerating it is a sign of weak Muslim identity, which should be jettisoned for something that emphasises an Islamic identity. People afflicted with will confuse emotionalism with having "heart." Sometimes, the point has to be driven home by raising hopes and showing that their positive nature can bring them good results. One of the important rituals in Sufism is the zikr. You have been taught and conditioned in a certain way.

The report stressed the Sufi role as moderate traditionalists open to change, and thus as potential allies against violence. But, what reason can ever be shown as an excuse for insulting, playing with the dignity and personified chastity of the chaste, honest and honorable daughter of the famous mujahid, heroic amir 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jaza'iree? I profess the religion of love. "Allah and His Angels pray on and Praise the Prophet. I heard him (the Prophet, pbuh) say: "he who dies in the state he enjoys today will be closer (to me) in rank and dearer to me on the Day of Resurrection."7 In criticizing some of the companions he (the Prophet, pbuh) would say: "you have changed; barley is (now) sifted for you when it was never sifted before; it is baked into thin bread, combined with condiments; your menus have become varied; you arrive with one set of clothes and depart with another.

The Massoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdish Democratic Party (KDP), and the influential Barzani family are Naqshbandi Sufis. Al-Bukhariyy related that a man had memorized Surat al-Baqarah and Surat Al-^Imran and prayed many times behind the Prophet, yet he apostatized, moved outside the Arabian peninsula to live, and died as a blasphemer. Similar attitudes are evident in Southeast Asia among Thai Muslims (94%). Aisha brings more than eighteen years of teaching, healing and counseling experience to the University.

The membership draws on both the Persian émigré and American convert Muslim communities. One can be subjected to the most coarse influence and do not suffer from it; on the contrary, one can be joyful and calm, and perfect oneself through these social contacts given by God. So influential was the Fatimid House of Wisdom that, centuries later, European Freemasons copied its structure. This is a sizable fragment preserved in al-Barizi’s Tawthiq `ura’liman ft tafdil habib al-rahrndn. They both said that whoever dies first, he would inform the other what had happened to him. Accordingly, many Alevis maintain the possibility of separating belief and religious practice. William Chittick presents both sides, touching on the major beliefs and practices of Sufis through the ages. Al-Ghazzali tells us that, of the four groups of people who claimed to be in possession of the truth, only the sufis, who walked the right path, because they combined knowledge with action, had sincerity of purpose, and actually experienced the serenity and contentment that comes from direct illumination of the heart by God.
